They looked at prevailing winds, prime sun exposure locations, and they wanted to retain mature trees! Unfortunately the final project (by FoTenn) looks watered down - especially the beautiful central park that was there is now gone... But at least it's a step in the right direction!

P.S. Remember 37 Eccles? I really loved being able to see the progress with that house! Well now Jo Stockton of It Ain't Meat Babe is building a new LEED certified home in Sandy Hill with her husband. Check it out here: When I Get Home.

Three cheers for urban sustainable design! But a serious "boo" for destroying the park. What's the point of a LEED-certified building if it's not surrounded by trees? We need fresh air to breathe while we walk in pedestrian-friendly areas.
It'll be interesting to see what they do with the Rockcliffe Base - Rothwell Heights - this will be CLC's largest land redevelopment - 310 acres - 6.5 kms from downtown!
